You already know that a plant-based diet is best for the animals, and the most sustainable diet for our planet. But if you ever had any doubts about the optimal diet for athletic performance, you need to see "The Game Changers," a new film premiering tonight at the Sundance Film Festival.

This documentary by Louie Psihoyos, the Academy Award-winning director of "The Cove," features interviews with elite athletes at the top of their game, who extol the virtues of a vegan diet as a way to improve performance. Check out the trailer below, and visit the film's website to find out when "The Game Changers" will be shown in a theater near you.

Another reason to watch is that my esteemed colleague, James Loomis, MD, is one of the physicians interviewed in the film... in fact, he is at Sundance right now for the premiere. Yay, Team Physicians Committee!

Every day, the evidence mounts in favor of a plant-based diet for optimal health, but just to push back against anyone still skeptical about veganism for peak athletic performance, I'm thrilled that a film like this is being released.

Happy film-going, and see you on the trail!
