An Offer I Couldn't Refuse: XC Revolution

A tantalizing message appeared in my e-mail this morning:

"I am directing a low-key racing event called XC Revolution on New Year's morning. The event is true European style cross-country, which means you will have to run through brush, mud, and hurdle (or slowly climb over, for those not trusting their jumping abilities) various obstacles.

If you want to experience an off-road adventure and possibly cure a hang-over, please consider coming to the event in Ventura, CA. Please be aware you may get muddy."

Come on. Could you resist an invitation like that?

This will be me on Monday.

This will be me on Monday.

I rushed to the website, registered online, and then tried to learn more about what I'd gotten myself into. I discovered on the Buenaventura Golf Club site that the course we'll be running on, Olivas Links, is in the process of being renovated. No wonder they're willing to let a bunch of crazed harriers tear up their precious turf! The same site includes a plan of what the course may look like when it's completed this spring, but who knows what it'll look like when I'm there next Monday.

So... Do you want to undertake this adventure with me? Online registration is open until 12 a.m. on December 30, and there may even be on-site registration; contact Race Director Josh Spiker at xcrevolution@gmail.com or visit the race website for details.

I am so excited about starting the new year getting covered in mud, I'm beside myself with anticipation.

Here's to a playful new year.

See you on the trail!
